The closest major airport would be San Francisco. However, I would think that Santa Rosa would have a good regional airport, and would recommend that.
Anywhere in the Napa Valley / Sonoma County would be good to stay ... the closer you get to the real wine country areas, the more expensive it will be, but worth it. Check into B & B's.
Lovely country!! Enjoy!!

upload up the price of food, gasoline, apartment automobile, and all points of interest, and then double it. that would favor to conceal you in California. I disagree about the vehicle in SF - I continuously lease one there and basically be sure the motel has a parking storage. it really is cool to rigidity down Lombard St. if no longer some thing else. also, it really is cool to rigidity over the Golden Gate bridge and examine out the Redwoods, wineries, etc. north of the city. also, why no longer fly into LAX, lease the vehicle, and take the computer highway as a lot as SF, and fly homestead from there? extremely breathtaking scenic rigidity. supply up at Santa Barbara and be conscious the sea coast and project, Santa Cruz and walk the boardwalk, Monterrey and the aquarium, the Hearst citadel, enormous Sur, a good number of extremely cool places you'll omit by way of flying up there.

Temecula is closest to my house...they have some nice wineries. I think, just from research, Napa and Sonoma propbably have a lot more to see. The pictures are beautiful.
