I agree with you on this one big-time. But it all goes back to our country's ridiculous overcompensation for professional athletes - the same reason fool athletes get full rides explains how Kobe Bryant has a hundred-million-dollar salary and my dad or your dad, who do actual _work_ at their jobs, have normal $40,000 salaries. No job on earth that any person could have would make him/her worth the kind of money that professional athletes get paid.

I know what you're talking about because my roomate is on the football team and THE dumbest person I've met in a long time. I have to pay almost 6 thousand a semester and he has everything paid. That pisses me off. I maintain an A average and he can't even get C's. I know this type of crap sucks but there isn't much people like us can do because the football team makes the university better known which gets the school more money and thats why my retarded roomate gets a full ride.

Athletes - especially football and basketball - MAKE money for their colleges. Guess what? Very few other athletes get full ride athletic scholarships; money comes from other sources such as academics or activities scholarships. For example, a soccer coach may only get 6 scholarships to cover about 20 people. He or she must lobby other departments to get money for their players.

Second, there are plenty of colleges and plenty of scholarship money for bright students.

Readjust what you think of as "top notch." Small private schools are often great schools with small student teacher ratio. Good grades and good SATs can lead to almost an automatic full ride at some of these.

Save your "TOP NOTCH" college for graduate school when it will matter more.

I feel your pain... The way I think of it is, in ten years do I want to be known as an intelligent, well rounded person, or that girl who got ahead because I could throw a ball around better than everyone else. Sports idols burn out quickly, smart people endure forever. It's not much comfort, but it beats the hell out of sitting around getting mad about it. There are loads of academic scholarships out there, you just need to track them down.

No,because you have to be particularly smart to be an athletic in most sports, and to even to stay on a team you have to have good grades or else you get kicked off.The only reason they get the 'full ride' is because of sportsmanship and participation.
