Recently NASA came up with water being found in the frozen Lunar Polar Areas. Wow --thats' great which means this precious commodity need'nt be lugged all the way up at heavy cost to important scientific equipments and Life Support systems that
have to be taken choiceless..Thus now emerges a great scope for man to stay, study and improve chances of independant survival on Moon --with substantially reduced help from Home Base Earth-- looks scintillatingly achievable not too far away. Wow what a day it shall be when Man takes over that land that has enthralled poets ever since poetry evolved.
Only one rider please---For Heavens(that includes The Moon) please do not mess up with environment the way it has happened here.Keep it pristine, keep it crystalline, keep it the Way HE wanted it to be.Our children will remember us for leaving a Legacy that shall immortalise The 21st Century Man --as a being not all of a pure predator but afterall as someone with a heart & some feelings.

Early estimates are colonization by 2020...But knowing our countries tendency for procrastination, look for this to happen around 2025 - 2030. As far as real estate propects, it's taken us 45 close to 50 years since the beginning of the Space Program for private enterprise to start working in the Space Industries. Look for commercial real estate ventures to start around 2080 - 2100...

Waste of time and money colonising the moon. You might as well build a base at the bottom of the ocean. Its pathetic.

Once we get forcefield technology, there will be no limit to ship sizes... enough for millions of people in an earth type environment + we can then boldy go and explore... instead of being stuck on some dead airless rock of a moon.

Well NASA are still trying to work out how to get a human further than Earth orbit. They are supposed to have sent men to the Moon but even with the technology we have today they can't do it. They reckon they would need another 20/30 years to be able to get there. Makes you think, after all they are supposed to have been there already !

When our energy requirement need it.

As soon as they discover how to produce nuclear fusion (rather than fission). The hydrogen isotope (or the material needed to do it) is not easily found on ‘Home Base Earth’ but is found in abundance on the moon. 1 tonne of this stuff used correctly should provide all the energy requirements for the US / China for a few months.

Leave the moon alone. What's so great about it anyway? What you should be asking is when will we live underground because a new race of evil-superhumans will evolve and trash earth even more than we are already trashing it. Soon we will have to move in with the faeries!

Not in our lifetime. I would say by 2169 we may have a colony on the moon. They will give land to the big corporations who can develope and exploite the natural resourses best.
