The only thing that is unsafe about screensavers are the ones that you can download from suspicious sites. These downloads usually cause your computer to be infected by spyware/adware and viruses. Best to use a Windows screensaver or if you must download - try non-spamming sites.

Answer to Question 1:

Screen savers are not really necessary in terms of image burn-in. In the past, with CRT monitors, image could become "burned" into the screen causing problems, screen savers were used to stop this. Personally I have a "black" screen selected as my screen saver and the only real use for it is to password protect my computer when I leave it and forget to.

Answer to Question 2:

You don't even really need this if the computer is in a safe place. However, I would recommend that you do have it setup to go to some sort of screen saver after a couple of minutes (like 30) and to password protect your computer at that time.

Answer to Question 3:

You screen is most likely a TFT screen as they do not make many non-TFT screens anymore. TFT is a variation of LCD that is more reliable. If you bought the computer after around 2002 it is 999/1000 a TFT screen.

Good luck!

No

Neither are Mouse pads

Modern Monitors can just be set to turn off after a set time

Right click on an vacant area of your screen > Properties > Advanced > Power > Turn off monitor

However some of us enjoy screen savers. For no good reason.
