There is no certain way to tell the exact speed. Because it varies second by second. There are many factors 1) the congestion on the server. 2) The quality of the line. 3) *DSL* your distance from the server. 4) the amount of bandwith you ISP can provide you. 5) the place you are getting your infromation from their bandwith as well. some places have limited bandwith usage on the monthly basis. and some just have a certain amount of bandwith they can lend you at one time.
These several factors determine how fast your going. The only way you can have a definite speed is if you are surfing the internet on a T 1 or higher. Because they have a 98% definite speed rate. with little lag. But you might also need to upgrade you RAM and video card. Getting more RAM or a faster processor doesn't work because if you don't have video card with a video processor then your video card is getting processed by the processor and if you don't have a duo core processor then it is getting overclocked like a mother just to keep up. So buy a new video card and then it will zip and go through the internet.

It's about 7 or 8 times as fast as a dialup connection.
Not to shabby for general website surfing. Most webpages load at 256 Kbps so anything higher will give it a zing. However, if you're downloading music or movies, it may still take a while.

A little more than 7.5x faster than 56k dial-up, and about a third as fast as a 1.5Mbps (1.5 Megabits) connection. It ain't bad... I'd say low-end DSL/Cable speed...
