Honey,
Dealing with your period when it starts can be tricky, sometimes even now I am an adult it's tricky ;)
But don't worry, it will get easier.
The easiest thing to do it use tampons, and make sure you have the right ones, maybe you need Regular to Super on heavy days when other days you need Light to Regular,.. this may take time to figure out. Tampons are also easier to hide while sneaking off to the toilet.
If you use pads, once again, you need to choose ones that fit your flow.
I would get a keep a period diary.. write down when you get your period, record which days you are get your period, when your light days are and when your heavy days are. Keeping information about how you feeling during the month in between will also help. :) Knowing when you get your period, what happens during and when your PMS is and how it affects you, differs from woman to woman so it's worth knowing about YOU. :)
Keep clean of course, change tampons and pads every 3-5 hours or when needed and you can pee with a tampon in.
EDIT: School can be tricky, do you wear a uniform or your own clothes? If you wear your own clothes, wear some with pockets so you can put a pad or a tampon in them. Another thing, use the bathroom before school and take your school bag, maybe hide a few pads in there somewhere... or whenever you need to use the bathroom take in your schoolbag.
Good luck and I hope things work out well.

It is normal to feel your menstrual flow leaking out. You could try using tampons instead of pads, the chance of leakage is smaller and chances are you won't feel the menstrual flow leaking out as much. However, if you decide to try using a tampon, follow the enclosed instructions and make sure to change it every 2-4 hours.
For the cramping, most women take either Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen). For your age, I would not take more than two (2) capsules per day.
Hang in there. Most periods last between 4-7 days, and depending on your body, they may start heavy and lighten up, or start light and become heavier near the end. Just remember, all of us girls have to go through this at some point!

First off i wanna say WELCOME TO WOMANHOOD...!! Congratulations on the period..
I know its a pain in the *** and it will be for the rest of your life. I am assuming you are using pads.. Pads are good.. But tampons are better. In the stores they sell Jr. ones so think about that. They may be uncomfortable at fist but you will thank god that they invented something like this.
Your fist period may be heavy. The only thing you could do for this is change your pad frequently and in between classes.
As far as the cramps go there are all sorts of cramp relief medicines. But works the best is stay active threw out the day. If that dosn't work then the only thing i could suggest is a heating pad and the fetal position.!
GOOD LUCK

CONGRATULATIONS! oh and i'm sorry...
its a mixed blessing and curse... your one more step closer to being a woman.. but it does come at a cost...
there is some great advice in here.. i'd add drinking plenty of water and staying away from caffiene and products like MIDOL or pampring... altought they are made for mestruation they have more than a pain reliever in them and can dehydrate you.
best go with an over the counter like previously mentioned.. or Aleve..
a heating pad can help when your home just make sure you dont burn yourself, make sure you shower or wash daily.. your hormones are goin to be wacky.. your skin and hair may change.
ask your mom or another trusted female adult about getting you an age appropriate book about your body...
your period will change over time.. may get ligher or heavier or more or less days... even women with periods for 20 years forget this... eventually you will settle into a pattern.... and for a while keep some type of feminine product with you all the time... it may sneak up on you till you get used to the pattern and symptoms.
and its ok to use tampons while your a virgin
i use a tampon and a light pad... sometimes tampons dont get it all... most of educate yourself about your body.

In case if your period comes unexpectedly at school, it's always a good idea to stash some extra pads in your locker as well as a pair of underwear and pants. I don't recommend tampons, because your body is still changing at that age but if you want to try them, make sure you opt for the slender or junior size. Also, keep in mind that the nurses' office does have feminine products as well.
Now as for the cramping, take Midol or Tylenol. It helps me tremendously. Hot tea also helps.

I know it may be difficult but the more you exercise(that means all month long) the less its going to hurt. A heating pad might help too.
It may be embarrassing but talk to your mom and see about getting to a gynecologist(a dr who specializes in girl problems).
by the 3rd or 4th day it should slow down.
