In anatomy, the stomach (in ancient Greek στόμαχος) is an organ of the gastrointestinal tract involved in the second phase of digestion, following mastication.

technically speaking if u broke these two functions into two separate organs neither organ can be classified as a stomach yet working together they act as one

Yes, it can be done, but what kind of life does that leave you with? A feeding tube can be placed in the small intestines and bypass the stomach all together. But the food you recieve thru this tube must be broken down to it's simples form since the stomach cannot do this for you. Simply put, it would be like living on a diet of Ensure poured down the tube several times a day. And what goes into the tube comes out the same way on the other end.

I think I saw a thing on TV recently about a family who all had their stomachs removed because of the threat of cancer. I think they made a little pouch in the intestine or something. I think it was on 20/20 or Dateline.

yES, BUT YOU WOULD NEED TO HAVE FEEDING TUBES OR KEEP EATING A HIGH CARB DIET THAT IS EASILY ABSORBED, BECAUSE THE STOMACH ABSORBS ALL OF YOUR VITAL NUTRIENTS. Oops, soory about caps.
