It can take up a lot of time, especially the ones that cover up what time it is. Kind of like Casinos. It can also make it a time squeeze to stay on schedule. I've been late to work numerous imes because I wanted to level up or finish a quest. I've also gone to bed at 4-5 am often because I had no clue what time it was while playing. Quest and Leveling up games are the killers because you want to push that envelope and go farther into the game. Fortunately for me, I work for family, so it's not as detrimental if I come in late. It's a great feel to beat that game though, and our competitive drive keeps us going so that we can go that extra bit.

Well not many people like to admit it but it does only affect your daily life if you let it. Most online games (I assume you mean pay-to-play) take much time to play and can consume you if you dont take time away from it. I used to play WoW and would stay on it for insane amounts of hours trying to get the best items in the game and to be the best. While being the best takes alot more time then to get the best items you will play a long time untill you get that if you ever do. I finally got the best items and got bored of the game shortly after. But if you just mean online games such a runescape and tibia then no they dont affect your life any.
