Sounds like one of two things. Either you are in a service provider "black spot" (this happens, I have to take my Virgin phone to my favourite village pub cos my Orange won't work). Or you are in a block of flats which is a steel framed building which is in effect a big Faraday Cage and won't let a lot of radio through. Some phones have external antenna sockets but I don't think the E900 is one of them. http://cellantenna.co.uk have adaptors for phones with no antenna socket but you will need an aerial as well. Find a friend with a different service provider and see how their phone performs. T-Mobile is one of the more notorious for ropey coverage unfortunately.
