YEARS AGO when I attended prom, I personally designed my dress. I described it to a friend, she drew it and a designer friend to made it for me. Shoe, dress material, and accessories ran about $150. The greatest joy was not having the same dress as someone else. This happened to numerous girls INCLUDING the prom queen. I had to laugh. (evil grin)

Good luck! :)

I would first say to try a major department store, like Dillard's, Macy's or some other store for black and white dresses. Check the juniors section, but also check in the women's/misses section for other options. If that doesn't work, try a discount department store like Marshall's, TJ Maxx, etc. Whereas they may not meet your color requirements, I'm pretty sure none of their dresses will run you over $150.

If that still doesn't work, go to your local Barnes and Noble store to check out the recent magazines like CosmoGirl and Seventeen for their new Prom issues that can give you ideas and store locations for places right in your hometown.

Those are two places I got prom dresses from. One year I made mine though and it ended up being my favorite of all of them. I think in the end I only spent $40 on it too.
Best idea if you are creative and can sew/know someone who can sew.
