I have a chance to find my biological mom, but I need a copy of my birth certificate. Where is the best place to find it? I am on a limited budget, so I need something reasonable.

It shouldn't cost more than $25 dollars and should be on file with a county or state government office. What office? I can't answer that unless I know what state you were born in. The city would be helpful too.

Get on the internet and find the government offices where you were born, start calling and asking where you can get a certified copy of your birth certificate... somebody in those administrative office will know and will be able to point you in the right direction.

In Louisiana, those records are kept at the parish (county) health unit.

From the courthouse in the county seat of the place you were born. (If you don't need the actual stamped certified one, you could go to where you went to school and ask for a copy of it out of their file on you. It had to have been shown there in order for you to go to school there, so they have to have it. If there's a real nice secretary and they know why you want it, they'll probably copy it as long as you can show I.D. or they remember you.

Contact the county of the state where you were born, and talk with the office of the county clerk.

if you know the date of birth and your original name and your mother's name, go to this link http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/obtainingbirthcertificates/applying.asp
if not, have a read of the gro.gov.uk site generally as this will give you ideas. PS this only works if you're English!
