We shouldn't, but we do.

I know it is not clothes, but here is an example. My wife drove a Mercury Sable for several years. We saved our car payment money and paid cash for a Mercedes ML320. Now that she is driving a Mercedes, some of the moms at our daughter's school want to be her friend, whereas before, they didn't even speak to her. Even though nothing has actually changed, it gives the impression of money, which is a form of power. We all want to associate ourselves with someone who has power. It is a natural reaction, stemming from the days when it was "survival of the fittest".

When we do things like this now, however, we are only cheating ourselves. How do we know that the person with the clothes, car, house or job that turns us off won't turn out to be the best friend we have ever had? Think about it, people.

Sure you can judge people, but you might not be correct, of course. Someone wearing clothes you'd consider unkept might be a millionaire while someone who looks trendy may be living check to check.
