I have been receiving Texas Unemployment benefits since October 2006. I just received my "last" check, which was pennies compared to what I usually receive. They said my benefits were exhausted for 2006, but I'm to continue my job search and recertification. (I was let go from a job I held for 1 year.) I'm very confused..will I receive more checks? I haven't received a letter of benefits termination (yet). They said my case is open till Sept. 07...any ideas?

Actually you won't be getting anymore checks. I was just on unemployment and was on it for 6 months until my benefits were exhausted. You have a set amount of benefits you can receive going in. They should have sent you a letter letting you know what the amount was. That amount was determined by your length of employment and how long you worked there. Once it is gone there is no way to replenish it until you start working at another company.

Your case will stay open for as long as you are unemployed and you can still even report in bi-weekly like you always do, but you won't receive any checks. It's just a way for the government to collect unemployment statistics, so there is really no point in doing it. Well, I guess one reason is sometimes they send you info on jobs and training and things like that.

Nothing yet. Keep checking, but worried I may not qualify. I've been unemployed since Aug, 2008. My benefits ended in June but I was told to keep filing until July 31st in the event of an extension. My life is coming apart at the seams.

Sounds like it was just your last check for 2006. I'd ask if you will be beginning a new benefits period in 2007 - i.e. if you will start getting checks again.
