I agree, those things never work right. They usually have someone there to help which makes you feel even more like an idiot for not being able to use a SELF checkout. Like I can't even do the job of a supermarket cashier.

What gets me even more is that sometimes the SELF CHECKOUT is CLOSED! How exactly does that make sense?

You have to scan hear the beep then place on the conveyor one at a time. If you have more than a basket of items then you might as well go to the normal check outs it saves time.

I can handle them but my wife wants to kung fu the thing.
We onced had to get 7 items deducted because she kept scanning the same thing thinking it was not doing anything.

You are not silly!!! I feel the same way. I do not go to self check-out any more because it just takes longer, and is just plain annoying. My worst experience was at home depot. I couldn't scan the item, and when I did it wouldn't allow me to put it in the bag.... ANNOYING!!

The supermarkets should be giving each shopper, who uses the self checkout, a discount for doing the job of a cashier.
Instead they make us use equipment that is a money saver for them and a source of frustration for us.

BTW...I feel the same way for any retailer who does this to it's customers...Especially Home Depot.
