Some people view digital art as emulating traditional techniques using software like Photoshop or Painter. That is nothing but craft, huge difference!

In digital art pixels and bites generate expression and the piece cannot be done using any other medium. It is usually interactive and the artist's job consists on creating a set of rules and letting the environment run by itself. It involves working with electronic devices and learning how to program. there are many ways.. the most common is to use photoshop, and find tutorials that show you how to emulater real art like oil and stuff like that. which the program can do. Ex. you can scan a piece of fabric and tell photshop to apply the scan of the fabrix as a canvas so when you paint on it the painting will look like you are painting on the fabric.. good luck
