every time i put a blank CD/DVD in my CDRW and DVDRW the computer resets itself when it trys to read it or write files onto it

Check the manufacturer's website to be sure you have the latest driver for the CDRom drive. Download the latest even if it is the same version you have and install it.

Turn off the power, check all cabling on the drive itself and reseat them.

If the problem continues, your drive may need replacing.

That's not good.

Sounds like it could be any of the following, not a simple problem.

* Try disconnecting your drive, can a friend loan you a different drive to try? (A new one is about £20 from eBuyer.com)
* Operating system issue, re-install windows.
* PSU problem, low wattage, need replacement or more powerful PSU.

there is either a conection problem between the computer and the drives or you need to try a different burning software...

other than that your drives are damaged and you need new ones... also a format could sort it.
