I have a huge problem and I have no idea about what to do... My fiance and I are supposed to leave on Monday to go down to Florida and look for a house. My fiance has been in trouble with the law in his past and it has sort of caught up with him. He is helping out the cops and doing some things to work off his sentence. This was suppposed to make it to he was able to leave the state with misdemeanor probation. Now everything is getting messed up. His lawyer is saying he shouldnt go to Florida and hinting that we may have to wait almost a year until the paper work is done and we get a court date. How are we gunna get on with our lives and begin this future when all this is going on? Both of our lives are in danger by staying where we are now but if we cant leave what do we do??

Something doesn't seem right about your lawyer's answer. They can transfer his probation to a Florida probation officer. It's only a misdemeanor, so I can't understand why it would take a year. I'd check with another lawyer and ask for a probation transfer. What's the worst that can happen? The Judge says no. If your life is in danger, you need to get away with or without him. You know you don't need a man to live.

Florida like Texas is not friendly to convicts. They will not accept out of State misdemeanor probation at all.

However, It might not be a good idea to go to Florida with him at all. There is nothing that he can do to help the police to minimize prior charges. The cops a lying to you.

Now I echo the sentiments of the others. Dump the bum and find a good Jewish boy to date.

The problem is, when you're on probation you're really not supposed to leave the state in which you live. Period. That takes you out of the convicting court's jurisdiction. Yeah, your fiance can "get on with his life" when he pays his debt to society. When you committ a crime and are convicted, they don't let you off without a little hardship.

If he leaves the state, he could end up behind bars for a probation violation. It's not worth it in the end.

make the crime do the time. Punishment is not meant to be taken easily, it is meant to make you learn from mistakes and not do it again. One year is nothing, hope he learns something.

YOU need to DUMP HIM!!! You shouldn't associate yourself with a known criminal. Do yourself a favor and put distance between the two of you.
