It contains mercury and should be eaten in extreme moderation. It does contain all kinds of protein and omega-3 fatty acids that are excellent for brain development but then so do walnuts and sunflower seeds without the risk. Congratulations. P.S. Walnuts and raisins are good to carry with you to stave off nausea and give you some lasting energy.

Its a 50/50 split. Some say ok some say no. Before I knew I was PG when I would eat it, my feet would swell. I thought maybe it was the salt content till I found out a couple of weeks later that I was knocked up. So I've been off of it since. But man I miss it...I love Tuna salad in a major way. Well only my tuna salad. I'm going on a tuna a sushi binge once little bit is born.

My doctor said canned tuna was fine, if not great to eat. There were too many good things in it not to be able to include it in the diet. I was told though once a week would be fine, and wouldn't be too much mercury intake.
I think that the time when you might want to watch it would be if you were ingesting multiple foods with a Mercury content over the week.

You should limit the amount of tuna you eat to about one can a week. In fact, you should limit your intake of large fish in general. The reason for this is mercury levels that are found in these fish. Bigger fish, like tuna, eat other smaller fish and therefore can have higher mercury levels in them. Eating raw fish is a big no-no and that is because of bacteria and food borne illness. When I was pregnant I listened to my doctor and not my friends. It is your baby, you call the shots!!

You can have no more than 2 cans of chunk light tuna a week. It's great to eat when you're pregnant because it's chocked full of protein, but not too many calories!

My wife was told to not eat certain fish. I don't quite remember what fish that was though. The fish that she could eat she was not able to eat more than once every 7 days. She was able to eat tuna.
Edited to add. I think it is no more than 6 ounces of fish every 7 days.

I was having craving issues and asked the same question. Here is a list of seafood and fish that you may eat during pregnancy.

Fish is a brain food so pretty much any kind of fish would be OK as long as you cooked it fully, tuna no because its raw
any other fish would be ok cooked fully (it would make your kid smarter)
hope this helps
