Being FOR girls isn't the same thing as being AGAINST boys. Oprah does a lot of charity work. She probably felt that the girls needed a little extra help because the boys were doing OK. Besides, if you don't like it you could always go to South Africa and build a $40 million school for boys to make up for Oprah's evil attitude toward's boys.

No I don't think that she is discriminating. She has opened the school because she feels that girls get a hard / poor deal and that they do not get enough done for them. She said that the girls that will be educated in the school, like her when she was growing up, are living with their grandparents and she wants them to know that they can get an education and do something with their lives. She wants them to be educated enough to know that they don't have to become single mothers and she wants them to know about safe sex so that they don't get STD's.

Generally she just wants them to have a better start in life, also as it's her money she can and should do what she wants with it. i think its good that she is making a difference. More people should do what she is doing

More importantly, why is she discriminating against Americans getting an education? She claims that American children don't appreciate things as much as poor foreigners. I disagree. I think she wants and needs people to clamor all over her and love her for the goddess she thinks she is. Foreigners may know WHO she is, but not HOW she is...so of course they'll love the person who keeps giving them money and material things. I say it's a nice tax write-off for her.

Please let us not verbally bastardize Oprahs concept! Education is already difficult to come by in the African continent. For women it is even harder. So Oprahs programms are allowing these young girls who would have otherwise had no chance to jumpstart the lives so as to say. This will allow them a future of educated decisions. What i mean by this is that, they are the ones who will be left with children to care for when the affects of war have torn their familes apart, not the young fathers who live as they please. that is a universal fact! That happens worldwide! So instead of having countless children and accidently getting infected wiht some incurable virus, they can learn to be educationally concious and focus on helping others by helping themselves first!
Men generally have it a lot easier than women! We have alot more than our skin color to fight with! (that is if you are a woman of color) SO PLEASE DONT ACCUSE OPRAH OF DOING SOMETHING THAT IS SIMPLY NOT IN HER NATURE! She is simply doing her best to encourage a new generation of young women to make better choices by using education!

Just think for evey 10 children if you have only 3 touched by the thirst for educating others then you have won half the battle right there. Because they can encourage others to make better choices even if they cant afford a better education! Or better yet they can help educate others themselves!

Lets be positive!

There is no discrimination. She has helped a school that have both boys and girls. She plans on building another school for boys later in the future. And importantly women over there are not treated as equal as the men. Oprah is giving them the chance to better themselves because the men don't care about their women.

Because many women in Africa are still treated like "property" and she is trying to help them better themselves. A lot of African women are infected with HIV/AIDS when they're husbands (often from arranged marriages) go to prostitutes and bring the disease home. She is trying to help these young girls rise above what is offered to them.

I'm not entirely certain most African males would agree to go to such a school to begin with. Remember that not all countries are run like America.

hi (((Eartha))) Is making a sweeping generalization discriminatory? i don't think of so. Inflammatory sure. Counterproductive, sure, whether this is not discriminatory. Discrimination could be to avert a muslim getting a job even regardless of the incontrovertible fact that they have been the main suitable qualified. I would desire to assert that from my time right here in R&S I certainly have found out to be extra distrustful of folk in faith than earlier. I do, whether, have 2 pals right here in NZ that are muslim. this is exceptionally unusual as there are very very few followers of Islam in my united states of america. I would desire to assert that that couple are 2 of the main endearing those that this is been my privilege to appreciate, yet I nevertheless despise their faith. i ask your self how long our friendship will final as quickly as we've a frank dialogue approximately our religious perspectives? If mainstream Islam have been to be a sprint extra self severe, then i could reasonable my perspectives, however the debacle over the recent everybody Draw Muhammad Day adventure shows Islam in poor easy: risky, divisive, parochial interior the severe and unable to tolerate valid criticism. the comparable applies to Zionism and fundamentalist Christian concept - for the checklist. You made the element that there's no distinction between making a racial slur and making a slur against Islam. I disagree. One can not help the colour of the exterior wherein one is born, yet with useful training and the appliance of strategies power, you may actually substitute one's religious and social perspectives. whether one would desire to is up for debate. the priority lies with Islamic clerics' intolerance in direction of any attitude different than their very own (to wit, Pakistan's censorship of facebook, the sanctioned death threats against Salman Rushdie...). This makes that communicate impossible on a extensive scale. Am I conflating Islamic management with all followers of Allah? probable, yet there are middle values interior the religion that carry authentic otherwise it does not be a useful faith. The middle values of all useful religions have a factor of belligerence in direction of competing faiths. until religions of all stripes tone themselves down somewhat, i'm going to proceed to hate faith, yet like the religious. i will additionally proceed to make generalist statements approximately faith simply by fact there relatively isn't any different thank you to attack the themes.
