Where I work, the facilities manager not only has responsibility for the maintenance of buildings and other facilities, he is also responsible for researching new builds, finding appropriate land, costing out, managing the new building, etc, etc. He is paid shed loads!

They normally take care of the property by scheduling maintenance etc. They would be in charge of custodians, landscapers etc. Basically, they oversee the day to day flow of the facility and make sure everything is running smoothly.

They do exactly what it says manage the facility. Schedule maintenance, and tell janitors, and grounds people what to do.
