I've heard a couple people recommend the game Apples to Apples? What is is and how do you play? Is it a board game? If so, what is it like?

Apples to Apples is a card game, not a board game, which makes it easy to play in large groups.

There are two types of cards, Red Apple Cards and Green Apple Cards. Red Apple Cards have a person, place or thing printed on them. Green Apple Cards have descriptions printed on them(i.e. funny, scary, dangerous, etc). Everyone has a hand of 7 Red Apple Cards, and one person begins as the "Judge."

The Judge selects a Green Apple Card randomly, and reads the description written on the card. All other players search through their hand of Red Apple Cards to find the card they think the judge will select as most appropriate to the description. Cards are played face down in the center, the judge collects them, shuffles them and plays them face-up. (The face-down bit is to insure no playing favorites.)

The Judge decides which Red Apple Card they like best. It may be the best match, it may be the funniest answer, it's entirely up to the judge. Players can lobby the judge, either for their own answer or others. When the judge selects the winning card, the person who supplied the card receives the Green Apple Card as a point.

Everyone who played cards draws replacements and the judge responsibilities pass to the left. The number of Green Apple Cards needed to win depends on the number of players. The more people playing the better (and more hilarious) the game can be.

Happy gaming!

everybody has seven nouns in their hands and you choose one person to be the judge for that round. That person draws an adjective and puts it in the middle of the table. the other people playing have to pick the noun in their hand that best fits the adjective. Like say the word was scary, you might have ghosts in your hand. It gets fun though because some of them are famous people, or political people. Then the judge has to pick which noun he/she likes best. The one who threw that card gets to keep the adjective and first to five adjectives wins. you change judges every round.
