I'd like to hear from the victims and the aggressors. What compel you to be a racist? Do you feel that your race is superior to another or all others? If you are generally the aggressor, have you experienced racism/bias yourself? Being a victim of racism, have you reversed on your own people? What instance when you felt offended/victimized by a racist? Please feel free to add comments/answers that were not asked here. Let's all be honest, we have the anonymity of the internet.

This is a question to examine an ongoing issue that clearly exists in the gay world. Not to single out a group so that more people can bash it. And no, I do not see gay people as a race. I believe sexuality is a lot more complicated than black or white and the same goes for race. Without discussion, everything will be swept under the rug. So for all of you with very fragile sensibilities, I invite you to give your two cents as freely as everyone else, including those of you who believe that all gay people exist in this beautiful spectrum of rainbow colors, seamlessly blending. Thank you.

Ok, First of all I'm starting to think some people are just completely delusional. White people just choose other white people coz y'all from the country too? What bull-shite is that? In your mind you think racism does not exist or its only a minority of instances, then please go right ahead and believe so and continue being ignorant. And by the way, my question never aluded to physical attraction. It seems in some people's experience, it only covers that.

Yes, they are because many find it surprising and reading others' answers, I don't think they even understand your question. Those who think your question is absurd are ignorant of what is truly happening in the gay community. Yes, people don't get lynched anymore but they are still looked down on. I've had ethnic gay friends who tell me that they've been told that they are not attractive because they aren't white. This is the sad truth. And more and more white gay men are finding it OK to be openly bias towards other races.

I see some confusion regarding this question. Lets examine the word racist.

racist - a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others

Just because a person has a preference for a certain race, that does not make them a racist. I spent 20 years in the Marines and was exposed to a very diverse group of men and women during that time. I was raised in suburban and rural areas. My exposure to minority groups was minimal but my mom was a good parent and always taught me to judge people by their actions not by their looks.

While in the Marines I was suddenly exposed to more minorities. I generally did not hang out with them although here and there I would have a friend of color. I can remember thinking a couple of times, maybe I am racist, but that was not true. I did not feel superior to these other people, nor did I hate them.

One day I suddenly realized what the difference was. I was a country boy and I had alot in common with the guys that were suburban/country boys like me. I did not get along with the city boys very much, regardless of their skin color. We had different interests and acted differently. Race had nothing to do with it.

I think that is what you see here. The city boys hang together and the country boys hand together. Race is not the issue, atleast not in the majority of the cases.

Racism and sexuality are two seperate issues, but people are no less likely to be racist because of their sexuality. It would be nice to think that as the 'gay community' has been and still is the victim of alot of ignorance and seemingly uncalled for hatred, being 'gay' would help a person to know how unfair and unjust it is to single a person or groups of persons on the grounds of looks, race or anything else. Unfortunately this is not the case sometimes people who are victims of unfair treatment can be the worst perpetrators of it. Call it human nature if you want I would call it the reality of living in an imperfect world where no 'group' of people will or should behave the same way towards issues they come across!

Most white GLB people I know just have generic white-people syndrome, where they're unaware that racism is still an issue, and they don't understand the institutional aspects. It IS disappointing, because some of these same people are all about the institutional aspects keeping the queer community down, but most people just don't think about it.

My brother and his bf tend to be pretty actively racist though (By which I mean they'll make racist comments etc. Neither would ever get physically violent, but.. :-/). "Because sometimes its true" and crap like that. They get annoyed by people, and they literally don't understand people most of the time, and they make both of those about race instead of the individual.

It doesnt matter if your a victium or if you do it yourself, everyone is racists in one way or another- wheather they realize it or not. Its been proven subconciously that many many people do it and dont even know they are. Just like a woman shopping in a store for example.....wants to buy an electronic item ...who would she be more likely to ask for help- a salesperson woman or a salesperson man. Its actually been proven she will go to the man more often cause she thinks men know more about electronics, when the woman salesperson might know just as much if not more then the man. So it depends on what kind of racisim or what degree. Cause everyone does it.

Why would you single out gay men and women to ask this question to?

You post a question about bigotry but clearly demonstrate it youself by singling out a specific group.

I get the feeling that you are a racist though - I dont appeciate the phrase "your own people."

Oh and if you think Yahoo Answers is completely anonymous to people who make racist comments you will be in for a bit of a shock.
