I already have my own answer figured out for this question but thought i might see what other oppinions are...

Well, Mario could easily avoid Sonic with his jumps even IF Sonic's fast. Plus, Mario has all those power ups, and if he combines Racoon Power, Fire Flower, Metal Cap, and StarMan, Sonic's doomed.
Sonic IS fast, with all his moves like spindash and homing attack, but Mario has more then that. Plus, Mario can use his Smash Bros moves all over Sonic.

In a fight it would be pretty difficult to say, because it depends on what each character has. For example, if Mario gets a mega-mushroom then Sonic will be virtually unable to hurt him. However, if Sonic gets a Chaos Emerald and goes Super Sonic, then odds might be in his favor. Overall, however, I think Sonic would win because his flippin speed is just too hard for Mario to fight. But...if Sonic does his usually taunting and showing off, Mario might get him.

I think both of them were great. In fact, rumors says that Sonic may be one of the upcoming characters on Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So we can (or can't) see Mario and Sonic fights for real.

The recfent Mario games are great but the new Sonic Game is GARBAGE so Mario is better.

Hello gamer its a long time since I played games with my sega megadrive consul...i was using cartidges at the time and then i found out that sonic the hedgehog were going on CD'S. but do you mean who would win a game of race....well mario and company are very mobile.....sonic is super fast if he gets his red sonic shoes on.....but then he could leave his foxy friend behind and that would make things a bit unequal.

Dude, they are imaginary characters...
Just imagine the scenario, and let whichever you like most win. But if you like stricter answers, the only possible way for them to duke it out, would be on a nintendo game, now that sega is publisher/developer only. So while they probably end up being friends and settle their differences, Mario should have to shine the most.

sonic all the way a far more versatile and adventurous guy, hard as nails and dos'nt spend all day chasing after some little princess. dont care what special power mario gets his hands on sonic would toast him easy.(and sonic has been on way more formats than mario ever will)

Sonic could pull Mario's pants, down spank his behind till it was rosy red and laugh about it before Mario could bend over to tie his shoe.

I suppose you mean in a fight correct? Well, I would have to say Mario would win if he had access to his special abilites (fire flower, star, cape, etc.) If not I'd give the win to Sonic for his lightning speed and spin attack!

i would have to say mario because he has tons of friends he could easily call upon to take sonic out and anyways the answer can be found by playing supersmash bros.
