Do you have any idea how expensive drug tests are? The taxpayers would just start bitching about paying for those too.
So, you think that if someone fails a test , then their children should be homeless and starving? How is that going to solve anything? We need to find a way to help these people become employable...

why should they? do you think its going to decrease the applicants? or do you think the only people on welfare are users of some sort of drug? if so then you are as shallow as you sound. There are a lot of people who are on welfare because they really need the help, it isn't easy for everyone to go and get a job. When I was freshman in college and taking a serious heavy work load I had to get on welfare to get foodstamps because there was no way I could work a full time job and take care of myself and succeed in school. So I don't see how a drug test will help or have any relevance to welfare procedure.

You are absolutely right. They should have to. Its obvious that costs for drug testing would be counter-balanced by how many people would lose their checks. You have to have drug tests to have a job, you should be subject to more scrutiny to sit around on your butt all the time. I've known of people on welfare that have big screen tv's (I can't afford one) and some that spend $20 or more a month on lottery tickets.

Cost. People have talked about doing this forever and it's not a bad idea. However, studies have shown that most people on welfare are simply not on drugs. So the cost of actually doing the drug tests would not be offset by a drop in our welfare rolls - therefore such a program would actually cost us MORE tax dollars, not save us less.

I think it's obvious that the government couldn't explain or reimburse themselves for sponsorship to the majority of people who are on these type of programs...addicts! It's an obvious easy tax write off and I wouldn't doubt if they had some type of health and/or life coverage on them as well in some underwriting of all the ridiculous applications. It's a way to depress those who already have no hope or knowledge of what life truly is about and further suppress their ability to go further by handicapping them with handouts.

In Los Angeles County, CA, there is a clause that you cannot receive General Relief or Welfare if you have a drug conviction. But they do nothing to test applicants.

Why do you think they are on welfare to start with? Because they can't pass a drug test to get a job!

yes. interesting question. I think often they care more about the children involved, so that's why they give them money, etc. Taking a drug test would hurt the children by penalizing the idiot parents. (in reality the children are screwed anyways)

they can't have any drug convictions if they want subsidized housing and anyone who will reside there can't have any either...they should have to take periodic tests though.
Rawhide, why do you assume that all welfare recipients are black niggs? Get your facts str8, there are whites and hispanics on welfare also, you know, the ones that your own people refer to as white trash and trailer trash? BTW, you're reported for Epithets and Slurs.
