How come we don't ask them to cut spending. The answers so far seem to indicate too many people will accept a hike. Why do we let the politicians screw us like this?

Yes your taxes will go up. They will go up a lot. If you make less than 100k a year say good bye to your savings because the Dem's want it. You rich people making less than 100k a year should not have any savings. It is not fair to the people make less than 20k a year...

anyone who was intelligent enough to watch the GAO chief's speech to the last congress would know it was already going to happen, no matter who was majority!
and cosponsored doesn't at all mean the legislation passed!
when you are a part of the majority, the chance that something you cosponsored will get passed, is that much more likely.
i would also love to see how that sad excuse for a statistic was derived.
let us guess...Bush 400 billion for iraq must have went on the Democrats tab?!

Yes!
And they repealed a rule change made by Republicans saying tax increases had to pass by a 3/5 vote. Now all it takes is a simple majority, which the Dems obviously have.
Maybe the tax increases will pass but NO Republican will vote for them!

Most likely, although Bush dug us in a hole by increasing spending and lowering taxes. He got kinda lucky that it took enough pressure off of our economy so that it could grow (and quite well I might add), but there's no such thing as a free lunch and we do have to pay our deficit back sometime.

I hope so, I think we should pay for the policy decisions our elected leaders make.
