Mayella, in the new update to this character, actually begins the process of overcoming the racial barriers that Harper Lee highlights, and changes the focus of the small town to the abuse her father is putting her through. What do you think of this scenario? Song "Daughters" by John Mayer could be good here.

The song "daughters' is far too sentimantal and suggests a strong, loving relationships. Try "fast car" by tracy chapman, about a kid running away from abuse., or that song "because of you" by Kelly Clarkson. You cannot forget that Bob Ewell is dead, so he can't be charged with any wrongdoing. A story of Mayella overcoming her past would be interesting. She's have to be a mother-type figure for those kids. she'd need some education or something to break the cycle of poverty.

That seems reasonable enough, although I don't know the song you mention.
