i know many say that affirmative action is to "level" the playing feild...but in simple terms its lawful discrimination against white people...the laws that have been past not only affect me and my children but generations of white people to come...i think laws to help level the playing field should be based on finacial need and performance of duties...and NOT the color of your skin...what made me sick sometimes is where i worked we had a "token" minority...they weren't able to do the job but we needed to have someone of "color" to be fair...so that person would get away with alot at work, bad attitude, late many times, lazy, etc...but if anyone else did the same they would get in trouble...

Affirmative Action is DISCRIMINATION and nothing else. It places "people of color" into jobs that most don't qualify for, solely on the color of their skin. If whites did that, the NAACP and the Black Panthers, etc. would be screaming for our heads. In this day and age of "tolerance," we should not need affirmative action. It is just another way of sanctioning anti-white racism by the liberals in government. Oh, and don't forget, you should feel guilty for being white.

I can't speak for being 'a person of color' but as a woman I do not need affirmative action. I am good at what I do, in fact I am very good. I only ever needed an equal chance. I never wanted to be hired because I was a woman, but because I'm better than anyone else.

Having affirmative action often means you cannot hire the best person for the job because you have to meet a quota, so many of each minority. So you have to hire someone based on color or gender even if they are not the best person for the job. This is unfair on the person who is the best candidate and unfair on the company who has to knowingly take on the second, or third or..., best.

Anti-discrimination laws ought to be enough. Laws that stop a candidate being turned down solely on the basis of color or gender.

I agree with you & crewdog60. Getting the job should be soley decided on abilities-not race or gender. However, there are still parts of this country that would rather hire " one of our own" whether that be black, white, male or female. It goes all ways. Do you ever see a predominatly black business with white workers? How many women working in predominantly male jobs? I am by no stretch of the imagination a liberal, but how do we REALLY level the playing field when there is always some sort of discrimination going on?

No, they should not. And remember, Affirmative Action also supposedly "levels the playing field" for women, as well. I am a woman. I do not need affirmative action. And my daughter won't, either. We earn what we get in life.

since you are ranting instead of asking, I'll rant too. This is still a capitalist socienty - if you can do something that is valuable to other people besides moaning about your missed chances, you will succeed. Diversity in the workplace is good. Affirmative action never gave anyone anything but a foot in the door and the ability to fail or suceed from that point on. Do your job and quit moaning.

Interesting. You find government action to "level the playing field" by race offensive, but you want government to do the same thing based on "financial need"? I would say that you're guilty of employing the same falacy that you criticize.

Affirmative Action is the prize won for a racial struggle. If you feel it is instantiated by guilt then so be it. For those who receive the bounty it smells like victory.

*yawn* THIS IS SUCH A STUPID QUESTION!
The problem is not the minority it is your bozz, have him grow a pair and hire someone else.
Why is it that we blame all black people because one person that happens to be black does something questionable.
Are you trying to imply that there is NO white person on your job who does not do anything wrong?
PLEASE
this is so stupid, please quit talking about black people blaming everyone else and look in the mirror.
Seems like someone (the writer) wants the same kind of handout that he is mad for others for taking
