Spitting up is just spitting up. It is not something that needs a cure. It is caused by the valve at the top of the stomach not being fully developed. Provided that your son is gaining well and not in pain then there is nothing that SHOULD be done. ALL treatments have risks (even rice cereal, and soy formula) not to mention medications (even gripe water) have a potential to cause problems.

There are some other things you can do. Like keeping your son more upright during feedings and for an hour afterwards, and feeding smaller amounts more often. I assume you have tried these though.

If your son is in pain or not gaining weight then you have a problem.

"A few statistics (for all babies, not just breastfed babies):

Spitting up usually occurs right after baby eats, but it may also occur 1-2 hours after a feeding.
Half of all 0-3 month old babies spit up at least once per day.
Spitting up usually peaks at 2-4 months.
Many babies outgrow spitting up by 7-8 months.
Most babies have stopped spitting up by 12 months.
If your baby is a ‘Happy Spitter’ --gaining weight well, spitting up without discomfort and content most of the time -- spitting up is a laundry & social problem rather than a medical issue."

Hi, I am a mother of three that had the same problem with all three of them. The dr's swear by certain formula's, but there not always right. You know your baby better than anyone else. Since you have tried soy, I would have to say that you should try Carnation. I used it with all of my kids, it is not as thick as all the other formula's and it doesn't have as much of that funny formula smell. My cousin was recently having the same problem with her new baby and I went and bought her some to try and she still uses it now...just a note: she is on wick and needed to get a perscription from her dr. for it to be covered, but they will usually do this without much fuss. Best of luck, and congrats

Some babies spit up more than other babies.... my daughter is 5 months old and spits up ALL the time.....
it goes away about when they are 6 months.

go to www.enfamil.com to see if they have the kind of formula you are looking for..... i think they do now!
you could also try giving your baby less to eat at once, like every 2 ounces burp the baby, and see if he/she is crying for more....
but spitup is natural! it will go away!

Some spitting up is normal in infants, but if he is fussy a lot, and inconsolable, he may have Gerd (acid reflux). Just because they don't spit it out of their mouth doesn't mean they don't have it. Sometimes it comes up in their throat and doesn't quite make it out of their mouth and it burns....If you think that her spit up is not normal, definitely get another doctor's opinion. My son had Gerd, and was put on prevacid. My daughter had colic (inconsolable crying). Her pediatrician refused to look into gerd because hers didn't make it out of her mouth. I switched pediatricians and it turned out she did have gerd and was put on zantac (she had a night cough that was not relieved by other meds). Go with your instinct. I'm not sure if you are talking about formula (powdered milk), or cereal (flakes that can be dissolved in milk or babyfood.) Doctors recommend not giving cereal until they are 4-6 months old, so you may want to stick with formula for another month. Solids (including cereals) are supposed to be introduced when they are ready - when they express interested in spoon feeding and can push food to the back of their mouth to swallow. You may need to try a formula like alumentim, also try mylicon gas drops. Good luck!

if you don't think that the pediatrician is correct, ask for another doctor's opinion. the formula might need to be changed.

That's just one of the downsides of not breastfeeding. If you can't breatfeed, well things like that happen.
