When I was pregnant, my doctor told me that "a healthy pregnancy is hard to shake loose." You wouldn't want to start anything new right now, but there is no reason, especially under a doctor's supervision, not to continue exercising. If you have a history of miscarriages, though, the answer might be different.

And may I say congratulations on your upcoming gift from Heaven.

I'm 8 weeks along and I've worked out the same number of days/week that I did before I was pregnant.

It's totally safe as long as you are not "high risk." (You'd know if you are "high risk" - usually it's older ladies, or those who have had numerous miscarriages, or had a hard time ttc).

There are a few things/modifications you need to make. You can't overheat at all. You need to keep your heartrate under 140 and you need to drink tons of water before, during and after. You probably shouldn't go over 30 minutes per day and should stretch before and after. Stop if you feel even the slightest sign of distress. You need to remember you are not your same old self.

I was able to keep the same intensity of workouts until I hit 6 weeks, now I'm just glad to get to the gym and move for 30-40 minutes.

Now, the books don't say this, but I've noticed that I'm very crampy at night when I've used weights at the gym, so I've decided not to use them anymore.

When i was a member of the gym i saw a few pregnant ladies on the treadmill and bikes etc. They wasnt over doing it just a nice excerise. I think it would be fine doing a steady walk. My daurghter is 14 weeks pregnant and was on about going to the gym.

Yes, within normal limits, exercise is great for pregnant women! Walking, in particular, is safe the entire time you are pregnant. You will need to stay in shape, labor is hard work! For now, running and jogging won't hurt the baby, but ask your Dr. when they think you should slow down. This isn't the time to push yourself unusually hard, or train for a marathon, but any exercise you performed before you were pregnant is fine, unless and until your doctor tells you otherwise. Congratulations!

When I was having my first, I was lifting 150lbs regularly at 5 months pregnant. My body was used to it. As soon as it became a strain, I eased off a bit. No harm done.

Hi well they say the first 3 months are the most critical, so avoid doing anything strenious untill you have had a check up, i dont see anything wrong with the walking, but def no gym excercise!!

I have no idea how you find the energy to do it, when i first found out i was preg, i was 6 weeks and all i did and all i wanted was sleep!!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU XX

My sister in law just had a baby, she continued going to the gym throughout her entire pregnancy. Talk to you doctor but I'm sure as long as you do not overdue it, it is fine. Plus it will help you lose the weight quicker after birth.

Congrats!

Personally, I would wait until after you have your check up before doing anything else, but walking is the best exercise you can do whilst pregnant, so what you did was okay.

Just don't do anything else without the go-ahead from your doctor :)

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

If you worked out before you got pregnant, by all means continue to do so! My doctor said it was perfectly safe and actually recommended that I continue my exercise regime throughout the entirety of my pregnancy. The more fit you are, the easier your labor will be!

exercise is very healthy throughout pregnancy. however, you should not do anything (strenuous) that you normal do not do. walking is the best exercise to do throughout the whole pregnancy. I am a dance teacher and was told that it was completely ok. you should always avoiding anything that you might fall (your balance will be off) or heavy bouncing (horsback riding). but they recommend exercising for 20 minutes a day, its not only healthy for you but is supposedly makes it easier at labor time

I would say hold off on the gym until you haave had time to talk to your docotor because you wouldnt want anything to happen to you baby and when he gives u the ok go right back to the gym
