Lobbyist should not be allowed to provide any gifts of any kind to Congresspersons. Campaign contributions should be eliminated. Let them provide their own money. There supposedly are limits now but they find ways around it. Gifts and campaign contributions is bribery. Terms should be limited to one term of six years.

Simply put, everyone has to be accountable for their actions. Congress is not going to impose any changes. Until they do, vote them out of office. If this is done consistantly, you will notice a change in their attitude. Remember, they work for you.

I don't think we are out control.
We don't need more laws.
We need less laws if anything or just enforce what is on the books.

As far as elected officals we have two parties and they are about the same now.

What is needed is everyone to get a grip on reality and face the fact we can disagree that doesn't mean the other guys is dumb, stupid, or full of hate.

We have to learn that we can disagree and act like human beings instead of monkeys in cages think they are better because they can throw more stuff at the other.

We have so many laws on the books it's ridiculous!! Officials pick and choose which ones they use. Politics plays a big part in who gets targeted. Example: Scooter Libby. He's on trial for not being able to remember something. That sounds fair and just! Too many laws. We don't need more laws. Laws can't change one's lack of character. We can see this on both sides of the political aisle. We need to have more people with character and integrity run for office, especially in the congress and senate. People who have been through some tough stuff in their lives. People who will put the needs of others before their own. People who will do the right thing when no one is looking.

What do you mean "out of control"? What do you mean "new laws for elected officials"? Do you mean that the previous congress and the current presidential administration run ruffshod over the Constitution and largely ignored the middle class (and the environment, and the peace, and the budget) at the expense of the most wealthy? yes.
I don't know what new laws you want or what your rhetorical point is.

No, who would enforce them? We do have laws in place now, it's not like they're always followed anyway. I don't think it's "Out of control", I think it's typical for a republic that's been around for a long time. Look at Rome and what happened their, if that's any indication of what to expect.

It is sort of funny, but Colorado just recently set about doing just that. We limited the amount of money that any politician can receive as far as a campaign donation, lunch, from lobbyists...

Every morning, when our state senators meet, the lobbyists bring them donuts and coffee...that has now been eliminated. These guys are really scared about being booted or recalled by taking too much money.
