To sdrum49, neither Hitler nor Mussolini are called dictators at Meriam Webster online. Do you make it up as you go along just to make your point? Try going with the truth instead of "truthyness"!

Why do you think the dictionary ought to conform to relatively new uses of the words "liberal" and "conservative".
If I suggest you put a liberal amount of taco sauce on that taco, do you throw a fit and toss the lot in the dumpster? Perhaps not.
If I suggest you spend your paycheck conservatively, do you immediately run out and buy an AK 47? Again, probably not.
You need to stop reading things into, of all things, the dictionary; the world of language does not revolve around the petty nonsense of American politics.

In Webster's, Hitler and Mussolini are described as "dictators", but Pol Pot, Mao Tse-Tung, and Lenin are called "leaders". You make up your mind. Dictionaries are edited by academics.

You must be a conservative. The dictionary is not political. However, there are several different versions. Keep searching. In true conservative fashion, may be you'll find one with definitions more suitable to your liking.

Apparently EVERYTHING has a liberal bias, it is part of their scheme to take over the world with their immoral views. It is quite impressive really as I hear that liberals are not very intelligent.
You make an excellent and possibly inflammatory point. The terms liberal and conservative have been greatly bastardized. A conservative equates a liberal to a drooling moron incapable of forming ideas, generally a sheep of the amoral underclass, where as a liberal sees a conservative as holding up antiquated values which may not apply to modern society.
So in stating that the dictionary has al liberal bias, I can certainly see you getting affirmative answers as conservatives are rather unclear as to what it means to be a liberal.

Interesting question. Based on your side-by-side comparison of those two words, I would say yes. I wonder what other examples someone could dig up. Maybe comparisons of "socialism" to "capitalism" (or "imperialism" as the libs like to use interchangably), or what is the definition of "Reaganism" vs ...

Better educated and more intelligent people tend to be liberals. Therefore a liberal bias may be supposed in the dictionary, encyclopedias, math text books, etc.

No - but it's too bad the Liberals aren't like the dictionary meaning of the word.
Edit: Oh I guess the Liberals who gave me thumbs down think they do stand up to that dictionary meaning of the word. You don't, so why don't you all just face facts that you aren't nice people.
Stephanie - The media does have a Liberal bias. There is no "Big Lie" about it. But I wouldn't expect a Liberal like yourself to notice, since it panders to your way of thinking.
Mandy - You are dead wrong, it's the Conservatives that are more educated. Since it's the conservatives that are the big wigs in all major corporations. There are also more conservatives that are Doctors and Lawyers. And all those professions take an awful lot of education. (Even though I hate classifying Lawyers in the mix.)
You know I think you all just like giving me thumbs down, because I'm very articulate and go against your ideas that Conservatives are uneducated.

If you ask a conservative I'm sure they would say yes.
They actually believe the "big lie" that the media in the US is liberally biased. Our media is so sanitized and watered down it is pathetic.
