How many are getting a check from the government to assist in their lives and we permit this to go on for generations and why not clean up the slubs and projects and clean up the morals of our country or have a ban in place as we have banned god from our schools now is it time to ban sex, booz, and being stoned .

We should do away with rewarding welfare mammys from popping out more illegitimate kids, too. Either sterilize them or get rid of welfare altogether. Have you noticed most welfare recipients drive Caddys, Beamers and Lexuses?

Welfare comes in so many forms these days that it's difficult to pinpoint just one problem area. Should individuals states ever get with the program of real help rather than the same old routine, I think we would find that the generations you speak of and the abusers would begin to shrink.

My suggestion would be to put programs in place that make families, mothers or fathers that have been in the welfare system a certain amount of time in a position of ; not be allowed to collect unless they work! And, yes they can work through just about any local government employment service. Whether it's ditch digging or busing tables. Allow the welfare recipient to continue with the benefits but keep their paychecks until they, either figure it out, work for a living or they are in a place that they can really be helped by welfare benefits.

Anything short of making people pay for what they get simply amounts to a give away. Many have learned to work the give away system and see no need to change or think they can change because, the current system doesn't allow for it.

P.S. Something WAS done about welfware in the mid-90s under the Clinton administration. It was completely revamped, and most people cannot stay on it more than 5 years (I think TOTAL, their whole lives) and must make progress to get a job or get education. Now we have people who are being kicked off welfare and have nowhere to turn, because they can't get child care so they can get a job or an education. So what's left? More poverty; more crime; more dispair. Yeah, that really helps.

I like what my church has done.
Take one welfare family and mentor them teach them a skill and move them off teh welfare roles.
Setup a competion among groups on who can get the most back to work.
The idea of government taken care of us is major waste of money.
People on the local level can do more with a whole lot less money and paperwork than our government ever can.

As far as conservative Christians go they far out do liberals when it comes to donating money and time than liberals. That study comes for a liberal who conducted the study. I guess there are some who talk the talk and other who walk the walk.

When Promise Keepers came to DC and they wanted to paint and fix up one of the schools. It was stop by the teacher unions.
The mayor got them into one school and said.
"I like these guys when they come to help they show up with paint and brushes and go to work"

During the Great Depression the areas that did the best were the ones who work to help out each other.

FDR step in with big government and it has gone downhill since.

While, I admit that the welfare system is being abused, and I have seen it myself, there are people that genuinely need the money to aid them. According to a study done in the early 90s, 83% of the people on disability or welfare truly need the assistance.

Due to recent regulations, it is very hard to get disability or welfare. They call it tightening their belts. I have a cousin who has Lupes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, a brain tumor, and has recently lost her sight due to the brain tumor. She can't get disability, because she has a masters in counseling. She is currently living with her mother, and being supported by her family. Do you think that she deserves the aid? She has worked all of her life, and earned it...surely?

I think that welfare should be governed with the heart, not with the analytical mind.

Yes they should of done something many years ago, they need to stop giving illegals money for a start-if a person is here illegally then he should have no rights, that money is there to help people here in this country legally. Religion does not belong in schools because it is just a belief and there is no proof at this point in time.

They need to do something, but if all people were kicked off welfare, you would see a large increase in crime. There are a lot of people who don't want to work.

I'm curious why you don't point to the wealthy. That group engages in the behavior that you would like banned--but I see that you only reference the poor. . .why is that?
