basically. The "period" "bleeding" is the removal of a layer of nutrition which was set up in the uterus to receive a fertilized egg. About two weeks before the "bleeding" the mucus is normally very slippery. If you have occasional "bleeding" of a normal amount then most probably during the time of slippery mucus you will have been fertile. Since it takes between about ten and 24 hours for the sperm to travel up to the place where the egg needs to be fertilized, intercourse should be relatively early in the "slippery" time. (the egg needs to be fertilized for a period of time as it makes its way down to the uterus in order for the body to get the message that things are happening, and the necessary hormonal changes take place to tell the body to receive the fertilized egg in the uterus)

Yes, unless there's an underlying medical problem causing your irregular periods...my periods varied in timing from every month to every two months....I got pregnant using over-the-counter ovulation tests (@$20/pkg)...Directions in the box gives advice on figuring out when to test....Basically you pee on a stick to see if you are ovulating, with each box containing 5-7 sticks......It took two months to conceive my first time....only one month the second time...two beautiful kids now... By not normal I'm assuming you mean how long between periods....If you have heavy clotting, or go for months without periods, I would see your gynecologist to rule out possible medical problems....Also, when trying to conceive, be sure to act as if you are already pregnant, ie. take prenatal vitamins, quit smoking (which can cause miscarriage), drinking alcohol, etc....Good Luck!!!
