Scarface is a great movie and a classic but not a true gangster movie. Godfather is a great movie that defined a genre, but i think Good fellas redefined that genre. Let's not forget a Bronx Tale was also an excellent mob movie.

Me and my mates allways have this debate when we are pissed! I think The Godfather, hands down! Some of my mates think Goodfellas but Casino beats that. Try White Heat or Millers Crossing from the Coen brothers.

Goodfellas was out on its own. The Godfather went on too long and went soft.

Scarface is one of my favorite movies.
Hoodlum was really good too. The Godfather series is the sh**.
I would have to say Scarface though. I love Al Pacino.

Goodfellas
But you need to be more specific in question, what kind of gangster.
I wouldn't consider Scarface a gangster movie, I consider that the worst movie I ever saw, Al Pacino is laughable.
