Well, it can take a very long time for the body to completely decompose, my father worked in a morgue and he said that the bones if left alone by animals and such can take years to decompose, but the rest of it can take up to a year or it can be less depending on how big the body and the amount of fatty tissue. Also heart desease and other illnesses play a part as well. But I am like the other person, why do you ask lol.

It depends on how much it has to decompose. But I'd say that 6 months are enough to decompose the body down to the skeleton in most well ventilated places with a moderate climate. But many variables can interfere with decomposition such as dry environment, acidity, lack of oxygen, cool environment etc.

If the skeleton had to decompose as well, you would have to place the skeleton in an acid environment as to dissolve the bones. But maybe you will then still have the non-mineral compunds of the bone (as collagen-fibers).

the simplest way to get rid of a body would be to feed it to pigs. They'll eat all of it, even the bones.

I hope this is only research for a book you're writing or something like that.

It depends on a lot of factors. A body can decompose in as little as 2 weeks in warm temperatures and exposed to the elements. It will take longer in cold temperatures or in extremely dry conditions. Embalming methods can make a difference as well. Some natural environmental conditions have created mummies that are thousands of years old (decomposition is never complete). The onset of decomposition begins immediately following death, when bacteria in the body begins to feed off of it. How long it takes to complete varies widely.

Interesting Ive wondered this too being a fan of Walking Dead. Sooo we're talking approx few weeks to 6 mos if body is exposed to the elements (warm weather, moisture etc) Meaning TWD walkers are completely Hollywood most would be pile of bones and we have nothing to fear just stick to the high ground if theres a zombie apocalypse. Theyll all rot within a year

You could've looked this up yourself online, just as I did. Your search engine is your friend!

" Bodies buried deep in the ground are protected from flying insects and warm temperatures, so they tend to decay relatively slowly. A body in a typical casket burial can take decades to decay down to the skeleton if embalmed properly, or as little as a year if not. But such decay can happen in a week if the body is outside, if it is exposed to carnivores, or if it has open wounds. Conversely, bodies can last centuries in a very hot and dry environment, which dries out the body, or in a cold and wet setting, where body fat turns into a form of soap that acts as a protective covering."

In ancient times, a body would be placed in a tomb and sealed. One year later the eldest son (If available) would reopen the tomb and place the bones in a box. The box would then be put in a niche within the tomb. The tomb could then be reused. To answer your question: It depends on the environment. anywhere from a few months to many years. The bones could last indefinitely.

Depends on the location it is placed, is it in a closed environment, has it been prepped for funeral with chemicals.. and by the way, why are you asking this question?

Sounds like you have one to dispose of. I recommend a meat grinder, and fresh concrete in a large construction site. Stir until blended well. It seems to have worked with Jimmy Hoffa.
