Quad core implies 4 core. It's is multitasking monster. It's like having 4 people doing the work.
But some times what happens is ,if the work is such that it can be done by 2 people the rest 2 people will be sitting idle(here rest 2 cores).
So,there will no significant difference performance between dual core and quad core.
The performance improvement will be high when software uses the ability of 4 cores.

It does speed things up, but mainly only if the programme is writte to use the extra Processors. Like the 3 Processors in XBox 360, it has to be written specifically for the quad core, or have a thread manager that assigns apps to different Cores

A quad core processor is a processor that has 4 cores. It's like having 4 processors in one, each core is its own processor.

Simply put, when it comes to processing data, the more that can be processed at a time, the faster it will be...
So, instead of just one processor doing a task (Like I have) you have 4 processors working together to do the task so it take much less time.
Like stacking boxes...which do you think would go faster? 1 Person doing it, or 4 people doing it?
