It was due to the fact that because Tardises could blend in with their surroundings (the Tardis is faulty, so it's stuck like a police box), and at the time, police boxes were commonplace. I, like many other Whovians are glad that they didn't but I've thought long and hard about it. I've got an idea of what could've replaced the design for more modern times but I'd like to know what you think?

I'm glad they didn't change it because part of the T.A.R.D.I.S.' appeal is that it's a police callbox. If it had been changed, though, I think it would have been fun to have it be a giant cardboard box. That way, the Doctor and his companions could land in a back alley and be considered homeless (although Sarah Jane Smith would have been one hot homeless lady).

Laughed out loud at Paul's answer, and although it would be a little creepy seeing more than one person exit a port-a-potty, it certainly would blend in to most areas considering today's trend in ongoing construction year-round, at least in the US. In England, however, it might not be as inconspicuous...

How about a Cooper Mini? Of course, depending on the number of people the Doctor has with him, it could end up looking like center ring at Barnum & Bailey's!

One could argue about using a automobile of some sort, a Van, HumVee or some kind of SUV would seem the most obvious, but I'm new to 'Who' so I'm not as invested as you appear to be.

I discovered it on Sci-Fi last season, and watched this last season straight thru, but the last episode is still on a tape that I haven't gotten around to watching yet.
