No, but some lipsticks can deplete the lips' natural moisture. (When the lips are dried out, they can appear to be lighter than their natural color.)

Absolutely not, however if u use too much the mate lipstick usually that comes in a form of a stylo, it will dry ur lipstick.
Sometimes smoking cause this decoloration of lips and I came across more than a person that has dark lips because of cigarettes.

of course not, in fact lipstick / gloss helps to protect the lips... it's not made just to give color, it has beneficial factors too!
But still, you should consider a very reliable brand such as chanel, etc. or if on a budget, maybelline would do.
IMPORTANT:
don't use expired make-up. lipstick also got shelf life, i think once u opened & used it- u have to dispose it after 6 mos. or less (even if it hasn't yet expired) - ask the make-up consultants at the store, to be sure.
mwahhhh!

I've heard that using bad-quality/cheap lipsticks causes the lips to be darker and drier overtime.

My mom told me that it does, even though she never leaves home without it. I don't see how it could.
However, have you ever noticed that men seem to have darker, longer lashes than most women? My mom also says that's because mascara does something to the lashes. Still, she never leaves the house without wearing her mascara either. Neither do I.
