What im talking about is the bit where someone says "Nice car buddy" and the other guy says "yer...360 BHP...0-60 in 6.3232 seconds, all-carbon chassis...PU-Zinc spaceframe tensile strength of 34243mega tons SIR!!". You know the bits Im talking about.

Theres always someone trying to show how "intelligent" they are by quoting all these irrelevant information. Its just so dumb and childish.

What do you guys think?

Im not talking about cars specifically.

There are always bits in films where a character gives all this useless info. They go all serious and start to act smart.

I always think the character looks like an idiot, like they are desperate to appear as intelligent.

Im not even talking about gearheads motorheads. Even in cop films you get this crap. And the reference to Americans is because Ive only seen this stuff in American films.

Yes I know they are only acting but to me it looks so dumb.

The bit always ends with "You know your **** buddy" or something like that.

Do you guys act like that in real life? Its so dumb.

Hrmm.. you're taking things out of context.

Think of it like this:

"Welcome aboard the Blahblah Submarine, Captain!"
"Thank you. She's a beautiful vessel."
"Yes sir, 123452353 horsepower, nuclear powered, with asdfasdf specifications and blahhhh measurements!"
"Impressive."

It's just a description. Adds to the movie. Cars, planes, boats, whatever.

Can you imagine:

"Welcome aboard the ship, Captain!"
"Ok."
"......."

All gearheads talk like that.... Is this a big problem where you are from ??? I think gearheads, no matter WHAT PART OF THE WORLD they hail from, tend to converse with one another using technical terms that they ALL understand... Now, what do you REALLY have a problem with ??? Americans, gearheads, American Gearheads, or what ??? And remember, it is a MOVIE, they are ACTORS, and often do not portray reality...

That example is where a guy is giving the specifications on his car. That's how it's done---it's technical information. How is that dumb and childish?

I think it is a film and part of the character. Who really cares? Plus - it is good to be dumb and childish. Life is too serious at times. I just laugh............
