I prefer to live in NY and the surrounding places around it, LA has traffic and so does NY but the thing that's crazy is LA has 6 lanes more or less and it super traffic all the time, in NYC its also traffic but you can see the difference in street space and width of the road, plus LA has more disasters like forest fires and earthquakes and they are near the san bernandino fault, the worse that happens to NY are the blizzards that doesn't happen a lot in winter time, history wise new york has a richer and a more in depth culture as compared to LA, and in NY you have your four seasons, plus there's MORE gang violence in LA than in NY.

This is such an unfair question...it's 6:20 a.m. on the west coast, so you're gonna get all sorts of East Coast biased answers. I'd pick LA over NYC. You can say there's all sorts of bad traffic, and that there's earthquakes and stuff...but in reality, it's not that bad. It's not like earthquakes happen every day. I lived there for four years and I only got to experience one...and it was kinda fun.

That said, I would rather live in the LA area. The weather's warmer (no snow), the beaches are nicer (no snow), there's a wider variety of accessible climates (snowboarding within two hours of the beach), and there's a lot of fun things to do, and good places to go, like...Disneyland, or Universal Studios. I mean, you could say the same about New York activities, but, did I mention, there's no snow?

One thing New York City definitely doesn't have -- beautiful sunsets over the ocean. Mmm.

I've never been to New York but I love LA. Its very diverse culturally. Great shopping and nightlife. People are generally nice (though I have encounter my share of sketchy ones). There are always things going on and fun things to do. It has something for everyone really. Sure its not perfect, it has its downsides, but I like it anyway.

If I had to choose, I would take L.A. It is much more spread out than New York City and the climate is milder. Both citties are congested and expensive places to live, but the quality of life seems better in L.A.

OMG !!!! Absolutely no comparisan here. LA is sprawling, dirty air, redneck trash heaven, where a car is necessary to sit and wait for hours to get 2 miles. NYC has everything - everything - and is now clean. Rednecks must come in from Jersey and they just get laughed at as they are the comic relief for the day. LA= trash & NYC=class
