I'll be visiting Chicago for the first time soon, and i have a choice between the months of June, July and August to make my visit. Which among these months is the best for shopping? I'd like to catch the best bargains and price slashes possible during that time.

It varies -- depending on the items you are searching for. For example the majority of good retail sales are right after Xmas -- this is when stores are trying their hardest to get rid of all winter merchandise that didn't sell over Xmas. SO the mark downs are great on Clothing.

For Furniture or major appliances (stove, fridge, etc.) you will find great deals during the 2 or 3 week in February or early July. In addition many places will offer little or no finance charges or extend the payment free of charges for a year or two.

Not sure if you like Bath & Body works but they have 2 great sales twice a year, one is currently taking place, this week they have the pump soaps 5 x $15, (substantial savings) great time to stock up until june or july when they have their other great sale.

Toys, or baby clothes I never find great deals on -- I think these items they can sell at anytime so there is no need to priced them down as dirt cheap. But for baby clothes I LOVE the rock bottom prices of Carter's outlet on North & Halsted street, in addition, the store will give you coupons for future purchases after you've made purchases.

Hope this helps.

~ happy shoppings.

Probably August. They're getting rid of the summer clothes about then, even though we'll still probably have hot weather. But we have so many discount and low-priced clothing stores around here, that it doesn't matter what month you come here. There's Marshall's, Filene's Basement, TJ Maxx, H&M, K&G, Nordstrom's Outlet... these places have bargain priced designer clothes year round.

Note: There is no Marshall Field's anymore... it's Macy's

August is best for the after-summer sales, but it is sooooooo hot there then!! The big department stores like Bergner's and Marshall Field's have excellent sales during this time, though, and you can pick up a whole name-brand summer wardrobe for a really good price.

Filene's Basement is AMAZING! The deals can't be beat.
H&M has some great stuff...cheap.

Don't go to Macy's...poor imitation of Marshall Fields.
