They are repulsive to men and a downright pain in the *** for women to deal with.
Don't get me wrong, God has done some wonderful things with His creation, but what was He thinking there??!?

It's not a problem for me, because I don't shave. By the way, I do benefit from hairy legs because, believe it or not, that hair keeps my lower legs a lot warmer than when I used to shave.
Not all men find it repulsive, there are plenty of men who like women in their natural state.
Edit: I would like to respond to Charles's interesting theory: Do you shave your legs and pits? If not, does that mean you're a dirty person? Better yet, do you brush and floss your teeth twice a day, shower at least once a day and never wear your clothes more than once without washing them? I do all of that, plus I have an immaculately clean home. How about you?

With apologies to Vitamin, I think it is so we can distinguish ladies with good grooming habits from those who are less concerned.
If legs and pits go unshaven, I would hate to think of overall attention to other details.

It's not God, it's evolution---humans have a bit of hair left over from that. It's just something that happened, and we deal with it the best we can.

all mammals have hair, give birth to their young live and give them milk from mammary glands. All people have hair just because some shave it or get electrolysis doesn't mean they don't have it too.
