I am 17 weeks pregnant with my second child and I am dreading a long labor and delivery again. With my son I had to be induced at 41 weeks, I was in labor for right at 24 hours and pushed for 2 hours. I have always heard the second baby will come out easier and quicker since there's more room down there from the first birth.

Second babies come a lot faster than first babies. They tend to come even faster than third babies. When a women is in labor and is dilated to a one at the beginning of our shift and she is a G2 P1 than we know for sure we will get that baby.

Congrats and good luck!!!

Well, I don't know how much better this will make you feel, but probably. Generally, first babies take the longest to arrive. After that, your body develops a sort of "memory" for the process, and things happen much more smoothly.
With my first, I was induced, and labored 26 hours. It was the day that never ended! !4 months later, I was again induced and labored for 12 hours. So while it's definitely an improvement, it could still take a while.
One thing that dramatically improves is your perception. There's not nearly as much fear, and you know what happens next. Plus, I took the attitude "if I can survive never-ending labor, I can do anything." That helped quite a bit.Congratulations, and I hope you have a speedy delivery!

I have 6 myself and have assisted in 12 deliveries. Every woman is different, but I have not noticed that to be the truth. My second birth was much harder than the first. Exercise and walking is what will ease the labor pains. Also, if you can eat 10 dried plums a day it could help. I learned this from a doctor not in the US that's a good friend of the family. It produces something in the body that makes the vaginal walls more lubricated when delivering. It sounds crazy...but I tried it myself. All my deliveries were about 24 hrs and pushed for about 3 hr. After trying this "tale" my last delivery was very different. I didn't need to get cut and didn't scream once. As a matter of fact, my doctor and I laughed in disbelief. It's worth trying.

Every pregnancy and delivery is different. My first delivery I was in labor for about 10 hours, not exactly sure how long I pushed, maybe 30 minutes. My second delivery I was in labor for about 10 hours and it was a strange delivery to say the least, I actually only pushed about 3 times, but that was due to other circustances. My 3rd delivery I was in labor about 7 hours, and I pushed for about 30 minutes. I have never had a bad labor experience but don't let yourself believe that the 2nd is always easier than the first, there are many possibilites.

I was induced with my first baby for 3 days and pushed 25 minutes with my second I was in labor 19 hours, 8 hours being induced and pushed for around 6-8 minutes so it was definitely easier.

Thats not always true for everyone. In my case it was the same time for both my boys. I think if the first one is smaller or the same size as the second one then it should be easier for the second baby to come out easy. In my case my first son was only 6lbs 2 oz and my second one was 8lbs 5 oz and it was harder to push the second one out ( only due to his size). So i think its all in the size of the second baby due to my experience, but everyone different. Good Luck

I think it doesn't matter I've known people with 5 kids and some were short some were long.. It was also different because you know what you are in for and what to expect! :) I was in labor 22 hrs with my first and pushed for 3 hrs just when they were going to give me a C I got so scared and I think he came out! This time was 14 Hrs and I pushed for 1 hr it really wasn't as bad for me.

my 2nd one was easier and quicker but that dosent mean it will happen to you. its the say so though, but they also say ur second will be bigger also! mine was smaller. enjoy ur pregnancy and then the birth and then the fullfillment of being a mother again. i personally luv the labour (no drugs) but i have a strong mind and kept reminding myself the pain will end at some point like a toothache!

well i hope its true. My first delivery was like yours, very hard, long, painful. I was induced as well. I've heard being induced is more painful than letting it come naturally, but I had pre eclampsia and had to be induced. Hope Skylar comes easier! :)
