I check yahoo answers, and several other forums on a regular basis, and it seems there are so many stupid people using the internet. From horrible grammer, to not understanding basic concepts taught in school, to even putting your social security number on a yahoo answer, it seems most people on the internet are idiots. Any reason why?

I think the main reason is that the Internet is the great equalizer - everyone has access to the same forums and sites, regardless of education, language, etc. It doesn't matter if you have a degree in English literature or are barely literate. Poor grammar also often comes from those who do not have English as their first language. Then again, it sometimes come from people who just have poor grammar in general.
There's also a real lack of education about Internet safety and security, which I think accounts for people including identifying personal information (including children who post their locations and ages).
I understand where you're coming from - it can be frustrating to see idiotic posts (both questions and answers) on various sites. (As an editor, the grammar particularly gets to me sometimes.) But the very fact that the idiots are not prevented from posting is what makes the Internet so great - it truly does not discriminate based on education, language ability, or even general intelligence.

It's not people on the internet who are stupid. It's people in general. The internet only makes them more obvious by giving them opportunities to show their stupidity with the entire world.

most people speak without thinking most of the time, Did you see the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz, his answer to Dorothy when she asked him how he could talk if he hadn't got a brain was "I guess a lot of people do a lot of talking when they haven't got a brain" or words to that effect. I wouldnt place too much importance on grammar or spelling though, there are more important things to worry about than that. Its the content thats important. I dont bother using capitals or punctuation a lot of the time but it doesnt mean I dont know how to, it just means that I am typing quick and that I dont think it is that important unless I am writing an official letter or something.

Some people are mildly dyslexic. Others don't care. There are millions of more serious problems in the world to get your knickers in a twist about.
