I agree w/ the vinegar theory...vinegar is great for everything!! THEN follow up w/ oil just not the baby oil. And never use selson blue on a child!!

geez

Hi, I had the same problem with my son since he was a couple weeks old. I tried oil. It didn't work and was very messy! I came on here and asked this same question awhile back and I got a really great answer. The lady told me her pediatrician told her to use a soft baby brush and soap up the babies head everynight in the bath and brush their head, do it for about a week or until it clears up (my son's did after about a week and a half). I did this and he doesn't have cradle cap anymore! His was particularly thick and crusty and I thought it would never go away! I couldn't believe that method actually worked but it did.

She said the pediatrician advised her that the reason for the cradle cap was that some babies have overactive oil secreting glands and oil gets built up very quickly. Now I just wash his hair every other night and it hasn't come back. Try this before you try the oil method, I'm sure it will work much easier and much less messy!

Oh and by the way, the oil will loosen the scales, but it isn't going to prevent it like this method will.

EDIT
Oh and when I said "soap" I meant baby shampoo!! Not a bar of soap! lol!

you can buy cradle cap medicine or try a cup of warm water and apple cider vinegar mixed lay the baby in a little bit of water in the bath tub and pour on scalp can put a washrag on forehead to keep out of eyes it should kill the cradle cap you will probably have to do it more than once

A pharmacist told me to use a tiny bit of Head & Shoulders when washing my son's hair when he was an infant and had cradle cap and it worked.

Rub a small bit of baby oil on the head and massage it.
Or use a soft bristled brush and massage it, after a few days, it will finally lift off the head. Then use your baby shampoo and wash out.

My pediatrician told me to get one of those very soft baby brushes, and use it to GENTLY brush baby oil all over the affected areas. After a few days, it will be gone and your baby will be pink and lovely again, not looking like a sci fi monster :)

I use lukewarm olive oil - massage it into the scalp and leave for a while (overnight if possible), then use a soft baby brush to remove it.

I love doing this! But perhaps I am slightly odd...

A pea-size amount of selsun blue and a baby brush. Just massage it gently into infants scalp once a day. If it doesn't clear in 5-7 days seek medical advice from a physician.
