The D series laptop I am using has the Phoenix BIOS. But that may not be true of all Dells. Press F2 to go into the BIOS and look at the screen. It will tell you there.

I just bought a new Dell XPS 410 and both the motherboard and the BIOS are named Dell, and in my case the version is 2.0.5
I don't know if Dell has their own developers or if the contract with other companies such as AMI, Phoenix, or Award to develop it.

depends which motherboard they use and which system
most common on dells would be award I believe
btw - phoenix and award have merged, so you can think it would be phoenix-award bios
