If you're black in America, you have dealt with this issue at some time in your life.
Black people are still doing that crap today. Talking about good hair vs. bad hair and talking down blacker people but then have the nerve to walk around wearing afrocentric garb and talking about cracker this and cracker that.
I lived in Atlanta for several years and there were always ignorant native black Atlantans putting each other down because their hair was straighter than the next guy or whatever...it's sickening and completely counter productive.

That issue has played out up here in the North years ago. However the older generation still re-acts to that crap. Especially people who migrated from the South up here to the North. All that crap started in the South I believe. Because we here in the North had other issues that were just as bad back in the day. White people just plain didn't like no one but themselves. If you weren't white, you weren't right! Simple as that! Even if you were a half-breed, white people in the North treated mix races the same way they treated dark skinned blacks or light skinned blacks. The fact was, that you were black regardless if you were mixed. I know they still do that crap in the South. It's ridiculous! Some of the most beautiful women and handsome men have dark skin. There are so many people in the world that cannot adapt to change until it is simply pitiful! I'm a dark woman and trust me, I'm the bomb! I keep my head up, I dress my @ss off, and I'm intelligent and classy. So it's also in accordance to how you carry yourself as well. You just have to keep it movin and not worry about what other people think. As we say up here in the North "For the person who has a problem with me, well so what!" You're not Feeding, F*cking or Financing me!" "So please go do a duck!"

I have dealt with that before, though not as much in my adult life. I used to be insulted by darker skinned girls growing up. They called me banana, high yellow heffer, etc. Luckily that type of stuff doesn't happen anymore.
This all stems from early on. Willie Lynch pretty much spelled it out, but the evidence was shown in several universities that specifically only accepted light skinned blacks. Tuskegee University was one of these colleges. This is why there is still some lingering prejudice among blacks concerning skin tone. We were trained to hate eachother as a method to further divide us.
Quite sad actually.

I have a friend that is darked skin and people use to call her names because she was darker than they were but I'm mixed so I'm light skinned and I always get compliments for having beautiful skin but I do disagree with that fact of people being ignorant because no one gets to pick their skin color

I know a lot of light skinned people(NOT ALL) who think they're gorgeus because of that. Its pathetic that they think light skin is prettier than dark skin . Its a shame that people still have such a warped standard of beauty in this day and age.

My sister (who is now deceased) was the lighter skinned one. My family referred to us as chocolate and vanilla. However, it wasn't in a negative manner. It was simply a family joke. But when I got older and in middle and high school, "Red Bones" were "in". (I grew up in the 80s) It was hard at first to be judged, by black people, by my skin color. I actually had one brother tell me that he doesn't normally date dark skinned girls but since I was pretty... (BTW, this guy was almost literally black as night. ironic, huh?) But now it is NEVER an issue. As an adult, I choose not to associate with anyone who could be as shallow as to judge me by something as irrelevant as that.

Huh? ~ nnnooo ~ I'm a grown a** woman. I deal with paying my bills, getting to work on time, school, and my kids. I have time to deal with "light/dark skin issues" ~ whatever that means.

I have a couple of black friends and they will not go to the beach! Don't want to get any darker because they think it is better to be lighter! I don't understand! We (whites) pay lots of money in tanning beds to get dark!

No, I am a darkskinned individual and I love my complexion. I am beautiful. I have never had any issues with this. There's too many other things in the world to worry about.
