I was just reading a question where someone said they missed kids getting an old fashioned butt beating and it reminded me of those stinging hickory switch lashes across my hind.

Awesome site! Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard "Theme From A Summer Place" in a long time. I remember watching Candid Camera, Gunsmoke, My Three Sons and 77 Sunset Strip on TV. I remember hula hoops and cookskin caps, and hippies and how we wore peasant blouses, granny dresses to be "cool" like the hippies. I remember the Vietnam war and the friends I lost to it. I remember the Cuban missile crisis and when president Kennedy was assassinated and then Martin Luther King, then Bobby Kennedy. No, the sixties weren't all that great. I grew up fast and realized how fleeting life could be and how it felt to have my little corner of the world explode with the realization nothing lasts forever.

Never got whacked with one, but I recall my gramma saying that she was going to whip us with a hickory switch. But we had no hickory on the grounds.

I don't remember them but my backside DOES ... also my mom used a flyswatter when she was really mad ... I think it went from one terrible extreme back then to now when even a little swat to get their attention can get them taken away for abuse.

I remember the threat of them but I was timid so just words made me shape up. My Dad used to pretend to take his belt off and that did it for all of us!

That wasn't such a bad question.....I've sure heard worse...I only heard of them from my mother, she used to get them across the back of her legs...seems inhumane to me. I never had the "pleasure"!!!!

I remember those. My mom would get two and entertwine them. I never done that to my children.
