I was late coming into work a lot around the end of the year in 2006. . .3 minutes a few times once 10 minutes. Although there is no excuse for tardiness I had expected with the weather and the holiday that my boss would have disregarded it considering all the extra work I have done and all the times I've stayed after to help him out expecting nothing in return. He is a little bit of a chavenist and a big time control freak but, I've always been able to look past that and see the good in him.

Until now. . .

I haven't been late once this year and I missed the elevator this morning (my office is on the top floor) I WALKED IN AT 8:02 and
started my copying, coffie, paperwork as always. i was struggling with the copier and he came over showing me his watch and said you're pretty late. . .

I WAS NOT. . .but, I was to afraid to say I walked in on time because he would just have something to say about the two minutes (assuradly) anyway.

Would that burn you???

Honestly.

I know it sounds petty on his part but as a former boss I have to say that he has a right to expect you to be in the office and at your desk by 8am. Maybe leave a few minutes earlier to be sure you get to your desk by 8. Do this for a while and he will change his attitude towards you. If he doesn't say anything to you then he can't say anything to others who come in later than you. It sucks but that's the way it is in business.

Yeah, he sounds like a jerk. From what you said, it doesn't look like your tardiness should even be an issue. Everyone should be allowed to be a little bit late every once in a while. That's just life. Stuff always happens unexpectedly. Just try your best to be on time, and brush off his little comments. Chances are he is probably the only one in the office who thinks anything of it. Good Luck! : )

He is your boss and has every right to expect you to be on time for your job. Two minutes late is late! Get to work five to ten minutes early. You admit that you were late "a lot" around the end of the year, then I think your boss should expect you to be making a bigger effort to be on time now.

Honestly I do not think this guy has ever had anyone stand up for themselves and he is gettign off on it. You should have told him you got in at 8:02 and starting working right away.
Pull him later and tell him "by the way I was in on time" and just walk away

late is late in order to avoid the problem you should always leave early enough to be at work at least 15 min. early then he cann't say anthing to you, and you just might get a raise.
