SORRY TO TELL YOU BUT ITS NOT JUST ITALIANS WHO ARE STEREOTYPES!!!! ABOUT EVERY NATIONALITY IS !!!!!
AND MANY ITALIANS ARE ALSO GUILTY OF STEREOTYPING OTHERS SO SORRY IF I DON"T GET THE BOX OF KLEENEX OUT
PS my husband is Italian his hands and uncles are Born in Italy and no they don't talk with their hands and they don't think that their family needs to marry only Italian people.
My husband is not fat nor does he have dark haor ...He's blond and slim so their goes some sterotypes. Their are differerent regions in Italy and the people have their own sub cultures their as well.My own experience more Calebreses and Sicilians like keeping to themselves more than Northern Italians

Thick accents, bad grammar, white undershirts (or shirts with the top 2-5 buttons undone), mafia associations, greasy hair (or big hair for ladies), cheesy sports cars, jogging suits, Catholic associations, pinky rings, thick necklaces - often with a saint on them, quick to brawl.
But it's not just those of you with Italian heritage, my friend. Every race has a stereotype that is overblown on TV and movies.

Stereotypes exist for a reason. I'm black and we have tons of stereotypes, some are legit and others are wayyyyy inflated just like Italians. People are drawn to these stereotypes because they are dramatic and entertaining, it's not all such a bad thing really...No what I'm sayin!

We must all be mobsters. . .especially thoses of us who drive nice cars, and live upper class lives.
We all live in either New York or Vegas (incredibly inaccurate)
We are all big time Catholics and Family people (traditionally yes, but, tradition has disinigrated over the years)
We must all be fanastic chefs (ok. . .so yes, it's in the blood but, not for everyone)
Cross us and we'll kill you without a second thought (not true: but, cross our family and you bet your a s s it's true)
Hmmmmmmmmm. . .
thats all I have right now.
Fory
WELL APPARENTLY I MISSED SOME. . .
how interesting that this question would attract those people who would take it into their own hands to share how THEY THEMSELVES would be shallow enough to steryotype Italian as.
FACT:
All cultures have spread around and diversified so greatly that you can not base your feeling on a culture baased on one group you'd find in America. In Italy I FEEL that you will find the Italian culture for what it truly embodies.
We are fireballs, but, in my excperiance very respectful, of eachother and others.
I have found the italians I'm assosiated with to be far more repectful of the world around them than the adverage citizen in my area.
That's what I mean. . .I'm sure you could take myself and put me next to an Italian in another area and find we only share heritage in common.
Steryotypes are ignorant in that they don't see the neverending possibility that is life, truth, capability and uniqueness to every individual soul.. . . and what is. . ."man". . .not "mankind".

These are some local stereotypes from Connecticut, which has a large chunk of Italian-Americans.
Orangey skin (this I've seen on a few), long acrylic nails, loud, they move way too much when they talk (seen this too,) they talk over each other rather than waiting for the person talking to finish, nasally voices, big noses, bad grammar and diction, bigoted against anyone who's non-Italian, the women pile their hair on the top of their head in a sort of bad updo....
The ones that are actually FROM Italy aren't a thing like that either! They act like any average person.

Movies are to blame for this...and so is history. Italian-Americans are always getting slapped with the "ganster/mobster" stereotype because thats how it was back then.

They are human beings. The stereotypes I have about Americans. This whatever-Americans is a way to think about someone's race first than being a human being.
